In the Netherlands, every year about 5000 children are born that will grow so poorly after birth, that they will eventually become much smaller than other children the same age.
This means that on a yearly basis, approximately 75.000 children in the age 0 to 15 years have a serious growth problem.
Stichting Kind en Groei (Dutch Growth Research Foundation) was founded in 1969 - under the name of Nederlandse Groeistichting (Dutch Growth Foundation) - to stimulate research into the cause of growth and developmental problems of children, to evaluate existing and new methods of treatment and to advise doctors and patients.
Stichting Kind en Groei will conduct an increasing amount of research in the coming years. A lot of knowledge has already been obtained in the area of length growth after birth. Now, it is very important that also more research will be done regarding growth and development of the unborn child and the consequences at a later age.
